In the fall of 2016 I was approached by the Picower Institute for Learning and Memory to create their Holiday content, consisting of a design for a printed card, which would be sent to donors, and a short complementary video to be posted on their website and social media channels.
After an initial style exploration, the printed card was designed in a retro, grainy landscape look reminiscent of mid-century travel posters. Because we were going for a non-denominational final product, the imagery combines iconic buildings from the MIT campus with a wintry setting.
The video uses roughly the same designs as the card, but translates them into 3D space in the form of a pop-up card that opens to reveal pop-up mechanism that creates the buildings. Some confetti-like snow completes the DIY look.
